    "The Namesake" Model Design Feature

    in General Discussions

While I was inspecting "The Namesake" and a number of other ray gun replicas, I noticed that some tend to leave out this little detail just below the left of the Ray Gun's dial. Is there a reason why this is? I originally assumed it had something to do with wiring and the space surrounding it, but I'm not entirely sure.

(This does not degrade my thoughts on The Namesake's design what so ever. It is simply a question out of curiosity.)

The resistance of the potentiometer doesn't matter that's why I don't go into more detail about it. Can you copy and paste this into a separate thread, so we don't crowd this one? Then I'll answer you over there. Thanks.

Hi again Andrew, thanks for getting back to me. ive ran into a big problem and the potential resolve at the end of my build. so..... everything went ok and switched it on and got all the sounds and dial lights but no fuse lights. i switched the signals out to diagnose the issue to find the same issue but now with the dial lights. i was starting to think it may be a dodgy pin 5... then i thought i wonder if i ordered the wrong potentiometer! i hadnt... i had ordered the 10k as mentioned in the components and wiring pdf. but i did notice that the one in the picture(on com and wiring page) is a 1k and the one in the video is a 100k?? should i order a 1k or 100k? hope you get back to me quick 😵 im so close hahaha.

    thanks, Si

Hi Andrew, I've purchased your ray gun assembly video links and drawings. my own ray gun is roughly about 85.115% complete, just waiting on my m5 melt ins coming from amazon uk. so a special thanks for the info/code to make the electronics work. i'm an electrician and do a bit drone building so the monkey work was easy but the code is something i'm only now becoming curious about. so thank for cracking open that can of worth :/ haha...

I'm also working on a bowie knife model for print in 3 sections. if you'd like a copy to give away with your package or modify to your own liking?

    Stay safe bud,

    Si

I'm glad things are going well for you on your Ray Gun build. If you do make a Bowie Knife model, you should make a post in the "Project Showcase" thread on this forum so everyone can download it and print it!

The designs I have shown on the channel to date have been my own and are not 1:1 game-accurate. When I first modeled the Ray Gun, I didn't have the in-game model, so I found one I liked that someone else had made and worked from that. I have started to model the Cold War version, but after my first ray gun video blew up, I decided that the ROI for those little details wasn't enough for the work I would have to put into it. I've also never really understood/liked the little scoop you pointed out (mostly because I didn't know how to model it back then 😉 )!
